What comes next
My most recent series – set in Shropshire, and inspired by my mother’s death and the beautiful Soulton Long Barrow. This is a series exploring a possible life beyond the grave, but focused on the family of protagonist Ruth as they learn to live without her. This is a highly original and insightful series full of love, empathy, humour, and hope.
First Christmas
This is the first Christmas since Ruth died and she watched as her family come together at the long barrow, where her ashes are being kept.
An introduction to the characters in this Shropshire-based series – including some of Ruth’s fellow residents at the long barrow – and a beautiful, alternative festive tale in its own right.
Grief and bereavement are very much present among the themes but so are family, friendship, humour, love and hope.
Falling Out of Stride
Ruth’s family begin to tentatively take steps into the unknown of a news year without her in their lives. The story begins with a new year kiss but this kiss shakes the foundations of the family and sends shockwaves through the following months, affecting each of Ruth’s children in very different ways.
A WOMAN’S WORK
With each month – each day – Ruth’s family feel they are moving away from her, and the lives they knew with her. Now eldest daughter Annie is facing motherhood without her own mum to help and guide her. Life moves on, regardless, and while it is painful, there is joy to be found if you know where to look.
A SHORT LIFE
Although people talk of time being a great healer, Kitty is finding the reverse to be true. Ever since her mum died, she has been protecting and supporting her brother, her sister, and her dad – and has turned down a wonderful work opportunity to do so.
Kitty is about to make a few, significant, poor choices. Ruth can see what’s coming but as ever is unable to intervene. Will the rest of the family notice in time, and step in to give Kitty the support she badly needs?
A Short Life is the final book in the What Comes Next series, about life, loss, family, friendship, hope and – above all – love.
